TOURNAMENT DIVISIONS
Open (Elite):
This is the highest level of play in the tournament series. Everyone should expect hard driven attacks regularly. Guys might block girls out of respect due to the fact that the girls can smash a ball too! “Hands” will be called tight using spin as an indication of a double contact. Cannot receive the serve or any first ball over the net with a volley unless the first ball over is a hard driven attack. Winning is why you play!
Competitive:
Here lies the middle ground… excited to compete, but not excited to get the ball smashed in your face repeatedly. Hard driven attacks will occur, but not at the same pace as the Open Division. “Hands” will only be called on the worst of sets. You may volley the first contact including the serve. Winning is good, but so is making (and keeping) friends!
Recreation:
Playing for the love of the game… but more importantly, the love of your teammates, the sun and sand, and quite possibly a beverage or three. Regular volleyball rules apply, but will be called at the discretion of the teams at play. Fun and friendship is the reason for this season!
